Keeping in front of the slogan ‘We want Bangladesh of unity, not conflict’, a discussion meeting titled ‘Role of citizens to prevent violence against women’ was organized by the initiative of PFG members of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila and with the overall cooperation of The Hunger Project Bangladesh. At 03:00 PM in the auditorium of Cox’s Bazar Model High School, the official program of the meeting started with the welconing speech of the president of the program and Chief Advisor of Cox’s Bazar Peace Ambassador District Network-PADN. Manzoor Alam. After that, the head teacher of Cox’s Bazar Model High School, KM Ramzan Ali, presented the main speech on the current situation, causes, types and prevention of violence against women. Then Special Public Prosecutor of Cox’s Bazar Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-2 and Joint Convener of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila Awami League Advocate Syed Md. Rezaur Rahman Reza spoke about the legal aspects to prevent violence against women. He said that violence against women is the most serious social problem of the present time. To solve this problem, the state provides various legal assistance to women. But, Still, violence against women does not stop. In such a situation, along with the government, the citizens should also be aware of this. Later, Sarwar Alam, police inspector of Cox’s Bazar George Court spoke about police assistance to prevent violence. . During this time, he presented the information of various services of Bangladesh Police to stop the violence before all present. Ayesha Siraj, member of Central Jubo Mahila League, Helenaz Tahera, Vice President of Cox’s Bazar District Women’s League, Masuda Morshed Ivy, head teacher of Cox’s Bazar Girls’ High School, Syed Karim, head teacher of Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Academy, journalist S.M.Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Josna Iqbal, Zafar Alam Didar, Bulbul E Jannat and others spoke. At the time, they said, violence or torture against women is physical, sexual or mental mistreatment or neglect of women by parents, other guardians, friends, classmates or anyone else. And in the present time, this type of oppression on our beloved daughters or mothers and sisters has increased to such an extent that it cannot be controlled in any way. In this situation, our future generation will never see the light of day if the family and the state as well as the conscious part of the society do not come forward to prevent women torture and rape. They will remain in the dark. They also said that men should come forward along with women in preventing violence against women. Everyone should be careful that no one can commit rape in the name of love or friendship.At the end of the meeting, Nasir Uddin, Assistant Education Officer of Cox’s bazar district, delivered the speech. At this time, he said, Bangladesh has become a sanctuary for women torturers and rapists. Children and women are subjected to brutal oppression in cities, villages, hills, plains, educational institutions and workplaces. This situation can no longer be tolerated. We all have to come together to control this situation. A social movement should be built against the oppressors and oppressors. Besides, the implementation of existing laws and religious guidelines to prevent child abuse and rape should be done to a full extent.
